Equestrian Silver (click on photos for larger view) O.257: A George IV oblong silver snuff box with engine turned decoration and cast foliate thumb piece, the lid applied with a horse racing scene. 3.1 inches long, 1 inch high. Made in London 1823 by John Linnit. £360. N.283: An unusual silver mounted inkwell formed from the hoof of a Shetland pony. The base fitted with a silver horse shoe, the silver mount textured to represent horse hair. Plain silver hinged lid opening to reveal a textured silver-gilt hinged match striker which in turn covers an inkwell with original glass liner. 3.2 inches long, 2.4 inches high. Made in London 1877/78 by EHS. £450
K.880: An inkwell formed from a pony's hoof, the unmarked silver top chased with scroll, leaf and wriggle work decoration, the lid formed as a jockey's racing cap, silver horseshoe nailed to the hoof, made in Chester 1886 by C.W. glass lined inkwell. 5 inches long, 3.8 inches high. £400. |
