Silver Claret Jugs (click on photos for larger view) O.392: A Victorian silver Armada patern wine jug profusely embossed with floral scrollwork and applied with 4 winged figures and a lions head. Hinged lid operated by a mechanical sprung handle. Vacant cartouche either side. 15 inches high. 41 troy ounces ( 1250 grams ). Made in Dublin 1870 by John Smythe. £3000.
O.55: A Victorian silver claret jug of elongated pear shape on a collet foot with a cast dragon handle and weighted hinged lid. The body chased with foliate panels and geometric scroll work, vacant cartouche to the front. 12 inches tall. 22 troy ounces. Made in London 1871 by H.L. H.L. £1050.
N.428: A Portuguese bulbous shaped silver wine jug with a concave base and plain hollow handle, the neck embossed with vine leaves and grapes. 8 inches (20.5 cm.) tall. 640 grams. Made in Lisbon circa 1900, by Joalharia Da Carmo. £380.
N.344: A mid Victorian ovoid silver claret jug on a circular bead-edged pedestal foot, double scroll handle embossed with shell, lozenge and foliate decoration, narrow neck with a shaped flared rim and weighted hinged lid. The body neck and foot embossed with raised ovoid lozenges in engraved cymetric bands, vacant area to the front, gilded interior. 12 inches high. 21 troy ounces. Made in London 1867 by George Richard Elkington. £1050.
N.288: A mid-Victorian ovoid shaped silver claret jug on a circular stepped foot, with a plain scroll handle, slender neck and domed hinged lid with ball finial , engraved throughout with a delicate fern pattern. Vacant cartouche to the front. 12 inches high. Made in London 1869 by J.T. £700.
N.182: A late Victorian tapering spiral twist silver claret jug on a plain spreading foot, leaf capped and hare bell edged high loop handle, hinged domed lid with a fluted ball finial. 11.5 inches high. 18 troy ounces. Made in London 1888 by John Newton Mappin. £1200
N.102: A late Victorian vase shaped silver wine jug with a foliate scroll handle and gadrooned spreading foot, the tapering body embossed with floral sprays, shell and scroll work below the lip. Hinged lid and flower finial. 21 troy ounces. 11 inches tall. Made in London 1897 by William Hutton & Son. £980.
N.06: A Victorian oviform claret jug with an openwork foliate scroll handle and domed foot engraved with anthemion and floral decoration, beadwork garlands and foliate friezes. Vacant cartouche, weighted hinged lid, gilded interior. 14 inches tall, 20 troy ounces. Made in London 1868 by E.C. Brown. £1100.
M.266: A Victorian silver wine jug of baluster form on a circular pedestal foot, the body, foot and hinged lid chased and embossed with foliate scrollwork, vacant cartouche to the front, double scroll leaf capped handle with ivory fillets, cast bird finial. 12.5 inches high. 28 troy ounces. Made in Sheffield 1853 by Roberts & Hall. £1100. L.483: A mid Victorian ovoid shaped plain silver claret jug of classical style on a raised circular foot with a tubular handle, plain flat lid and scroll thumbpiece. 11 inches tall, 15 troy ounces. Made in Birmingham 1872 by Frederick Elkington. £750. L. 478: A mid Victorian silver claret jug of baluster shape on a colet foot with a tubular neck, double scroll handle and tripple stepped hinged lid, the body intricatly engraved with circular scrollwork panels. Central beaded edged vacant cartouche. 10.2 inches tall. 24 troy ounces. Made in London 1867 by Stephen Smith. £900.
