Silver Sugar Bowls & Sweetmeat Baskets (click on photos for larger view) N.987: A vase shaped Victorian silver sugar basket on a shaped bead edged pierced foot with a beaded swing handle, the bowl with pierced chased wavey bands and beaded edge. Fitted blue glass liner. 7 .7 inches tall to the top of the handle. Made in London 1877 by J.T. £390.
N.395: An Edwardian silver swing handled sugar/sweetmeat basket of navette shape on an oval reeded pedestal foot, the half fluted bowl embossed with ribbons and flowers, reeded rim and handle, vacant circular cartouche on both sides. 5.5 inches long and 5.5 inches to top of handle. Made in London 1903 by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. £260. M.733: An Edwardian silver gilt sugar bowl with a blue glass liner, the frame pierced with floral garlands, a diamond border, bows and harebells on 3 ball and claw feet. 4.8 inches diameter, 3.5 inches high. Made in Birmingham 1906. £240. L.619: A good quality early Victorian vase shaped silver sweetmeat or sugar basket on a circular fluted bead edged spreading foot with a rope twist swing handle, the bead edged wirework body applied with a design of leaves and berries revealing a fitted blue glass liner, central oval cartouche with a wreath border engraved with a crest of a bearded man. Bowl 4 inches high, 6.5 inches to the top of the handle. Made in London 1846 by Charles and George Fox. £680 L.618: An Edwardian silver sweetmeat basket of navette shape on a plain oval spreading foot with a reeded edge, similar reeded swing handle and shaped edge to the wirework bowl, revealing a fitted blue glass liner. 6.25 inches long, 6.5 inches to the top of the handle. Made in Birmingham 1907. £280.
L.495: An Edwardian swing handled pierced silver sweetmeat or sugar basket with a cranberry glass liner, gadrooned rim, floral pierced wirework handle, the bowl intricately pierced with scrollwork, crosshatched and floral circular panels, central cartouche with a contemporary crest of a bird standing on a wheatsheaf. 4.5 inches diameter, 5.5 inches to the top of the handle. made in Birmingham 1907 by Elkington & Co. £380. K.649: An Edwardian boat shaped silver sugar basket on a tapering oval foot with a foliate embossed swing handle, the bowl embossed with a shell and lozenge pattern, and pierced with a frieze of foliate scroll work revealing a cobalt blue glass liner. 6.5 inches long, 6.5 inches to the top of the handle. Made in Birmingham 1904 by Elkington & Co. £350. L.193: A pierced silver sweetmeat basket or sugar bowl on 3 openwork feet, the tapering body with cut out panels of stylised flowers revealing the blue glass liner,gadrooned top edge and openwork handles. 3.2 inches high, 6.5 inches across the handles. made in Birmingham 1935 by HUKIN & HEATH. £300 L.178: An Edwardian swing handled silver sugar basket of naiveté shape, with a naiveté shaped pedestal foot, gadrooned rim top and bottom,reeded swing handle; the bowl intricately pierced to reveal the fitted blue glass liner. 5.5 inches long, 6.5 inches to the top of the handle. Made in Birmingham 1901. £350. K.878: A late Victorian 2 handled pierced sugar bowl and matching spoon. The bowl pierced with scrollwork, roses & cross-hatch panels, vacant shield shaped cartouche, open scrollwork handles, standing on 4 decorative feet, contemporary blue glass liner with star-cut base, together with an Onslow pattern sifter spoon, fitted in the original case lined with red silk & velvet. 7 inches wide across the handles. Made in Sheffield 1899 . £440.
